Newborn Left At Jerome Church

Associated Press

Police are searching for the mother of a baby girl who was left in a cardboard box with a note at a Mormon church.

The girl was found at about 8:30 Friday evening, when the church was open for a soup-kitchen meal for the needy, Police Chief Jim Dahl said.

The infant was found in the box atop a heating grate.

“She left a note saying, ‘Please help my baby. Its father says I can’t keep it,”’ Dahl said.

Doctors say the baby was 24-36 hours old when it was found. It was probably born at home, Dahl said.
