Customer Complaints Getting Attention

From Staff And Wire Reports

Several Silver Valley telephone customers have complained that they have been billed for services they did not receive, sheriff’s deputies said Monday.

Deputies did not say what services were falsely billed. The complaints have been forwarded to the Federal Communication Commission because the bills were sent from out of state, said Shoshone County deputy Shawn Eixenberger.

The Idaho attorney general’s office also has been notified.

Eixenberger said anyone who believes they have been falsely billed should submit a written complaint to the FCC’s Common Carrier Bureau, Consumer Complaints Division Rm. 1600As, Washington, D.C. 20554. A short statement of the problem and why the charges are false, a request that the charges be taken off the bill and a copy of the bill should accompany the request.

The Consumer Protection Division of the Idaho attorney general’s office also has requested anyone with false billing complaints call them at (208) 334-2424 or (800) 432-3545.

Complaints about service that has been shut off due to improper billing should be directed to the telephone company, Eixenberger said.

The deputy also recommended that customers not pay for service they did not receive. Inquiries from collection agencies should be directed to the FCC and the attorney general’s office after customers explain the situation, he said. , DataTimes
