Green Remains A Viking At Least For The ‘98 Season

Associated Press

Dennis Green, who had threatened to resign as coach of the Minnesota Vikings, agreed Monday to remain with the NFL team through the 1998 season.

“We intend to put the past behind us and focus on our ultimate objective … getting to the Super Bowl and winning it,” Vikings president Roger Headrick said. “Dennis is under contract for the 1998 season and I am pleased that he has agreed to fulfill that obligation.”

Green said he met with Headrick in San Diego last week.

“I am convinced that Roger and I can work together and are on the same page for this upcoming season,” Green said. “It is my intention to continue in my capacity as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings for the 1998 season.”

Green has one year left on his contract at $900,000, and Headrick has refused to talk about an extension while the team is for sale. Green’s agent said Monday extension talks won’t take place until the sale is resolved.
