Year Of The Tiger

For the Chinese, the Lunar New Year is like Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day rolled into one. The country began celebrating Monday, with a sacrifice ceremony at Beijing’s Temple of the Earth. Chinese soldiers dressed as imperial guards performed the ceremony, a recreation of a Qing Dynasty ceremony in which the emperor sacrifices animals to the gods of the earth to ensure a good harvest in the coming year. The Chinese New Year begins Wednesday.
