‘Tales Of Ovid’ Wins Book Award

Associated Press

Poet laureate Ted Hughes won the $33,000 Whitbread Book of the Year award Tuesday - Britain’s richest literary prize - with his collection “Tales of Ovid.”

The reclusive Hughes, 67, who, with a searing new book of poems, recently broke a 35-year silence about his troubled marriage to American poet Sylvia Plath, was ill and did not attend the awards ceremony.
