Cheney’s New Chamber Director Takes Office In’around: Cheney

The new director of the Cheney Chamber of Commerce said he wants to work closely with city government to improve the business environment.

“My goal is to create a better working relationship with the city,” said Nathan LaFayette, who became director this week.

“It’s mainly to get a better line of communication going with the city and attract new business to Cheney.”

LaFayette, 30, was hired to replace Amy Jo Sooy, who resigned after she became Cheney’s mayor.

LaFayette is completing his master’s degree in public administration at Eastern Washington University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Western Washington University.

While taking classes at Eastern, LaFayette served as an assistant to the mayor of Airway Heights and was an intern with a small business incubator.
