Bass Plans To Close Shoe Plant In Maine

From Staff And Wire Reports

G.H. Bass & Co. will close its shoe manufacturing plant in Maine and eliminate 350 jobs as the company looks to cut costs amid weak sales.

Phillips-Van Heusen Corp., Bass’ parent company which announced the plant closing on Wednesday, will transfer manufacturing to Puerto Rico and other undetermined locations.

Production at the plant will be phased out between April and July. Once closed, it will end a 122-year history of Bass shoemaking in Maine.
