Beatles Recruited To Help Sell Beetles

Associated Press

Volkswagen is hoping to use the Beatles to sell its Beetles.

The German automaker said Thursday it is negotiating with the three surviving Beatles - George Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr - about having them help with marketing.

VW hopes to evoke memories of the Woodstock era with its relaunch of the Beetle and believes the Beatles would fit well with their strategy.

“Both have cult status,” Volkswagen spokeswoman Martina Rudy said.

She declined to say what form the cooperation might take, other than to say “not a concert.”

The car goes on sale in the United States in March.
