Dog sledding

Priest Lake will host its 28th Annual Sled Dog Race this weekend for anyone willing to give the sport a try. The race will start Saturday at 9 a.m. and will restart Sunday at 9 a.m. Those interested in entering or just have questions can call for information at (208) 447-5744.

Alpine skiing/snowboarding

Excellent ski conditions were reported at Red Mountain with machine-groomed runs for the 101st Anniversary of Rossland winter carnival Saturday. Family Fun Night starts at 6 p.m. with the torchlight parade at 7 and the Carnival Dance at 8. Info - (604) 362-7700.

With 20 inches of new snow and 55 slopes open, Silver Mountain is hosting its second Night Ski Party tonight from 3-8 p.m. Tickets range from $10 to $12. Info - (208) 783-1111.

The Cliff Platter will be closed for a week at Big White due to the biggest avalanche ever seen at the resort.

Nordic skiing

Mount Spokane will be jammed this weekend due to Landlauf ‘98, the region’s largest cross country race. Saturday, the hyperski will last from 9 a.m. to after 2 p.m. and on Sunday, the Classic 10K Race starts at 11 a.m. Info - 238-2220.

All trails are available in the Methow Valley except Patterson Lake at Sun Mountain. Most, if not all, should be groomed for the weekend.

Snowmobiling

Groomers have been busy all week at Beaver Lodge near Colville and excellent conditions have been reported for sledding.
