Game Seasons To Be Discussed

From Staff Reports

Bear, lion, deer and elk seasons for 1998 are the subject of five public meetings with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

Agency biologists will present season results for 1997 and recommend more conservative deer and elk seasons. Deep snows last winter set the herds back in the Panhandle, said Jim Hayden, regional wildlife manager.

The agency is proposing more liberal mountain lion seasons in response to an increase in the population. No changes are proposed for bear seasons until the development of a new bear plan later this year.

The meetings will be at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Federal Building in Sandpoint; Feb. 5 at the Eagles Hall in St. Maries and in the Wallace High School; and Feb. 9 at the Coeur d’Alene Inn and the Bonners Ferry Junior High School.
