Late Run Helps Cheney Top Viks

The Cheney Blackhawks’ 10-0 burst in the middle of the fourth quarter allowed them to take the lead and eventually defeat the visiting Coeur d’Alene Vikings 46-37 in a Border League girls game.

Anna Getz, who leads the league in scoring, had nine fourth-quarter points for the Blackhawks (13-4 over-all, 10-3 league). She finished with 13. Kara Weitman had 16 points and nine rebounds, six offensive.

The Blackhawks’ defense racked up 15 steals and forced 23 Vikings turnovers, dropping the Viks to 7-13, 6-10.

The Knights stomped the last-place Bulldogs at East Valley, in large part by forcing the Bulldogs (4-15, 2-13) into 33 turnovers.

Malea Schumacher scored a game-high 16 points for the Knights (5-10, 4-7) on 6-of-11 shooting, including two 3-pointers. She made both of her free-throw attempts.

The visiting Trojans jumped out to a 17-1 lead in the win against the Eagles (8-8, 6-6).

Carmi Eberle scored 12 of her 16 points by hitting four 3-pointers in the first half for the Trojans (14-6, 11-5). Teammate Megan Billetz added 11 of her game-high 18 in the first half.

Gabby McClintock scored a team-high 16 points and added five steals for the Eagles, who hit 14 of 19 from the foul line.

Andrew Burgess caught fire for the Knights, scoring 47 points, as East Valley won its first league game, defeating the visiting Bulldogs (5-11, 2-10).

Burgess made 14 of 29 from the field and 15 of 20 from the foul line. He also had five rebounds and five steals to help the Knights improve to 2-13, 1-10.
