Worley Seeks Grant For Center

From Staff Reports

The city of Worley is hoping to land a $150,000 grant to build a senior/community center, and is raising the needed $135,000 in matching money.

So far, $55,000 has been pledged, said city clerk and project coordinator Gayle Dyer.

The state Community Development Block Grant would come from the Idaho Chamber of Commerce. The application is due March 6, and the city needs to have money pledged by then.

The 6,000-square-foot building would have a large meeting room and a kitchen, library/book exchange and gift shop.

It also would include a 1,250-foot city hall, which would be paid for separately. The city is seeking a loan for that, Dyer said, hoping to replace the mobile home now used as city hall.

If the grant is approved, construction would begin this summer and be completed with a year, she said.

Worley is on reservation land, and potential donors include the Coeur d’Alene Indian Tribe. The city has asked the tribal council for suggestions on incorporating a tribal motif into the building design.

More information is available from Dyer at (208) 686-1258.
