Dogged Pursuer Tracks Down Suspect

A canine in the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department tracked and helped capture a man who tried to outrun deputies in a stolen truck Monday, sheriff’s deputies said.

Tony A. Andrade, 18, of 2116 E. Gordon, was jailed for attempting to elude a police vehicle and first-degree possession of stolen property. Misdemeanor charges of obstructing a police officer and driving with a suspended license are pending, deputies said.

He was treated for bite wounds on his back and forehead, deputies said.

Andrade was arrested after a deputy attempted to pull over a stolen Toyota 4-Runner that was eastbound on Valley Springs Road about 1:30 a.m. Deputies said the driver was speeding west on Francis and ran a red light at the Freya intersection.

The driver ran another red light at Crestline and forced an eastbound car to swerve near Francis and Napa, deputies said. The truck ran several more stop signs and lights, changed directions and slid to a stop in the 3900 block of Bridgeport, deputies said.

The driver took off running. The dog, named Bach, tracked him to 3928 E. Liberty, where he was found partially hidden under bark, deputies said.

A male passenger was questioned and released.
