Public Comment Time On Mine Plan Extended

From Staff And Wire Reports

The public comment period for Asarco’s Rock Creek Mine proposal has been extended another 30 days.

The Kootenai National Forest has granted the 30-day extension at the request of other agencies and individuals. The original deadline was March 11, but it has been extended until April 10.

The comment period is for the supplemental draft environmental impact statement on the proposed mine. The proposed copper and silver mine would burrow under the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness Area, just outside of Noxon, Mont.

Copies of the supplemental draft EIS are available for viewing at the East Bonner County Library in Sandpoint, the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, the Clark Fork Library and on the Internet at http:/ /www.deq.mt.gov/eis.htm.

Comments should be sent to the Kootenai National Forest, 506 U.S. Highway 2 West, Libby, Mont. 59923. Anyone also sending comments to the Montana Department of Environmental Quality should note them as a carbon copy since the Forest Service is compiling the comments.
