Kimberly Vs. Declo For Title

State A-3/A-4 basketball

Junior guard Rich Arrossa and senior guard Scott Plew each scored a game-high 19 points to lead Kimberly to a 73-56 victory over Firth in semifinal action Friday at the Idaho A-3 boys high school basketball tournament in Boise.

Firth was led by junior forward Matt Reeder with 14 points.

Kimberly was ahead 37-24 at halftime, and outscored the Cougars 19-15 in the fourth quarter after each team scored 17 points in the third.

Kimberly used free-throw opportunities to its advantage, scoring 21 to Firth’s 15.

Earlier, senior guard Mike Christensen scored a game-high 14 points and senior post Eric Heward added eight to lead Declo to a 50-42 victory over Grangeville, also in a championship-bracket semifinal.

Grangeville was led by senior center Eric Dean and senior forward Dallas Edwards with 12 points each.

Declo led 23-15 at the half, and was matched in scoring by Grangeville in the third and fourth quarters. Both teams scored 15 points in the third quarter and 12 points in the fourth.

Earlier, Aaron Melder scored 26 points as West Side cruised to a 78-72 victory over Lapwai in a consolation semifinal.

Posts Darren Uranga and Gavin Parker each were good for 18 points to carry Homedale to a 72-63 win over Butte County in another consolation game.

Lapwai revived in the second quarter, trailing only 40-38 by the half. But the Pirates put together a 26-19 third quarter and held their ground the rest of the way.

Junior forward Spencer Lynn scored a game-high 32 points and Rafael Puga added 15 to lead Wilder to an 87-58 victory over Rockland in semifinal play at the A-4 boys tournament at Caldwell.

Rockland was led by sophomore Dana May with 29 points.

Wilder led 48-27 at the half, and increased its lead in the third quarter with a 22-13 scoring run.

Earlier, senior post Tanner LeMoyne scored 16 points to lead Hagerman to a 39-36 victory over Troy in the other semifinal.

Wilder and Hagerman play today for the title.

Troy had a seven-point lead at the half, but a Hagerman 14-5 scoring run in the third quarter gave the Pirates the lead.

Junior center Graham Snyder scored a game-high 20 points and senior forward Adam Marvel added 14 to lead Ketchum to a 63-42 victory over Greenleaf Friends and to a spot in today’s fourth-place game.

Stan Aschenbrenner’s 22 points and 10 rebounds helped Cascade fend off Mackay, beating the Miners 70-66 for the right to play Ketchum for fourth place.

Rob Winder poured in 16 points and Gailon Brown added 14 to guide Deary over Camas County, 58-45, in a consolation semifinal. Seth Adamson bombarded Council with 18 points as Notus defeated the Lumberjacks 68-60 in the other consolation matchup.
