Mars Employee Gets Away From Carjacker

An unidentified man tried twice to force his way into a woman’s car Thursday, Spokane police said.

The attempted carjacking occurred about 5:45 p.m. near the Mars Hotel, 312 W. Sprague.

The woman, who worked at the restaurant, went out to her car and, when she got in, a man walked up to the passenger door and tried to open it, police said. The man yelled at the driver as she pulled out of the parking lot.

When she stopped for a red light at Sprague and Bernard, he again approached the car, yelled and tried to open the door. The woman drove off, police said.

The suspect is described as black, about 25 years old, 6 feet tall with a heavy build. He wore a stocking cap and a black, knee-length coat.

Anyone with information about the attempted carjacking should call Crime Check at 456-2233.
