17-Year-Old Boy Victim Of Playground Stabbing

Associated Press

A 17-year-old boy died Monday night after being stabbed during a fight between two groups of teenagers on the grounds of an elementary school in Summit.

The boy, a student at Franklin Pierce High School, died about 10 p.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup. He had been rushed there with multiple stab wounds and spent most of the evening in surgery. His name wasn’t released.

Police were seeking a 17-year-old suspect Monday night.

Three other teenagers were injured in the fight on the playground of Central Avenue Elementary School in Summit, south of Tacoma.

About 15 to 25 teenagers gathered after hours at the school, said spokesman Curt Benson of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. Then a second group arrived, with about 15 to 25 teens getting out of their cars to confront the first group.

The groups exchanged words and then fought, Benson said. He said two teachers from the elementary school broke up the fight.
