Four Business Students Receive WSU Scholarships

Four Washington State University were awarded scholarships from the College of Business and Economics at Washington State University.

The students, their scholarships and parents are:

Michael VanHouten, majoring in marketing, received a $1,500 Schroeder Scholarship and was named a Glenn Terrell Distinguished Presidential Scholarship award winner. He is the son of George and Sara VanHouten, Spokane, and a 1996 graduate of Central Valley High School.

Amber Nick, a business major, received a $500 scholarship for academic excellence. She is the daughter of Teddy and Lourdes Nick of Spokane and a 1996 East Valley High School graduate.

Desiree Lockwood, majoring in business, received a $1,500 scholarship for academic excellence. She is the daughter of Nolan and Kathleen Lockwood, Veradale, and a 1996 graduate of Central Valley High School.

Kristen Alvernaz received a $1,000 Risk and Insurance Management Society Scholarship from WSU. She is the daughter of Daryl and Linda Alvernaz, Spokane, and a 1994 Mead High School graduate. She is majoring in management.

Kelly Bureta, Spokane, received a $900 Charles P. Lund Scholarship to Eastern Washington University. The award is given to students majoring in music.

While a student at Cheney High School, Bureta was choir president, a member of the All Northwest Choir, All State Choir, and earned gold and silver medals at the Spokane Allied Arts Festival.

She is the daughter of Robert Bureta and Peggy Bureta, both of Spokane, and a 1992 graduate of Cheney High.

Wesley O’Dell, a member of Boy Scout Troop 19, Nine Mile Falls, has received the Eagle Scout Award, the highest achievement given in the Boy Scouts of America.

For his project, O’Dell organized the assembly and placement of terrariums in Lakeside Middle School to allow students to watch seeds germinate and grow.

He is the son of Danny and Terry O’Dell, Nine Mile Falls.

Army Pvt. Daesung Murray graduated from the aircraft electrician course at Fort Eustis, Newport News, Va. He is trained to maintain, test and repair aircraft electrical components and systems.

He is the son of Songcha Yu, Spokane, and a 1993 graduate of Rogers High School.

Army Pfc. Aimee Burnett graduated from the motor transport operator course at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. She is trained in the operation and maintenance of light and heavy military vehicles.

She is the daughter of Sue Burnett, Otis Orchards, and a 1996 graduate of East Valley High School.
