Paul Greenleaf Sandpoint

Rosary for Paul Greenleaf, 82, will be at 7 p.m. today at Coffelt’s Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandpoint. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.

Mr. Greenleaf, who died Saturday, was born in Kansas.

He grew up and graduated from high school in Franklin, Neb., and then moved to the Sandpoint area in 1936.

Mr. Greenleaf attended Whitworth College in Spokane for two years and served in the Army assigned to the Carrier Service in Hawaii during World War II, being discharged with the rank of captain.

He then worked for the Postal Service for 49 years in Sandpoint and Hope and served as the postmaster in Hope for 28 years, retiring in 1992.

Mr. Greenleaf was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and choir and a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Connie; two daughters, Paula Royer of Sagle, Idaho, and Barbara Headden of Oregon; one grandson, David; and one great-grandson.

Dorothy Vanek Sandpoint

Rosary for Dorothy Emma Vanek, 93, will be at 5 p.m. today at Coffelt’s Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandpoint. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.

Mrs. Vanek, who was born in Montana, died Saturday.

She graduated from high school in Lewistown, Mont., and went on to become a teacher.

Mrs. Vanek taught school in Warm Spring Creek, Mont., and then lived in Heron, Mont., before moving to Sandpoint in 1972.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a former member of the Heron Homemakers Club.

Her husband, Frank, preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, Loren Vanek of Sandpoint, Arthur Vanek of Noxon, Mont., and Jerry Vanek of California; two daughters, Marjorie Gondek of Spokane and Lois Housholder of Michigan; 18 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Audrey Powell Spokane

Memorial service for Audrey May Powell, 71, was Monday at the First Baptist Church in Medical Lake. Riplinger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Powell, a 25-year Spokane resident, died March 2.

She was born in Kamiah, Idaho, and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Kirk Scott, died in 1968.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Vought of Newport, Wash.; two sons, Jerry Kytonen of Clarkston, Wash., and Denny Kytonen of Medical Lake; a sister, Iris Hodge of Athol, Idaho; and nine grandchildren.

Yvonne Buechner Copeland, Idaho

Service for Yvonne Elaine Buechner, 57, was Monday at Bonners Ferry (Idaho) Funeral Home. Burial followed at Copeland Cemetery.

Mrs. Buechner, who was born in St. Petersburg, Fla., died Wednesday.

She grew up and attended schools in Florida, South Carolina and California. She settled in Idaho in 1979. Mrs. Buechner moved to the Copeland area in 1980 and was a homemaker and farmer and a former military wife.

Survivors include her husband of more than 41 years, Ray; six daughters, Dorothy Waddell and Becky Buechner, both of Post Falls, Nanette Bailey of California, Tammy Waddell of Coeur d’Alene, Katie Buechner of Spokane, and Nancy Kemp of Missoula; two sons, Ray Buechner of Spokane and Ronald Buechner of Bonners Ferry; two brothers, Leslie Woodworth of Louisiana and Darryl Woodworth of California; one sister, Merrilyn Nicola of California; and 14 grandchildren.

Edith Adkins Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Edith E. Adkins, 70, will be Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Seventh-day Adventist Church. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Adkins, who was born in Virginia, died Friday.

She grew up in Virginia, where she lived until moving to Reno, Nev., and then Coeur d’Alene in 1990.

Mrs. Adkins had worked as a teachers’ aide and worked with special needs children.

She was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Her husband, Archie, preceded her in death.

Survivors include five sons, Don Miles and Steve Gohn, both of Virginia, Will and Lucky Adkins, both of Coeur d’Alene, and Michael Adkins of Reno; a sister, Ruby Nugent of Virginia; two brothers, Bernard Wright of Pennsylvania and Bubba Williams of Virginia; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Myrl Ballard Post Falls

Visitation for Myrl D. Ballard, 80, will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Ballard, who was born in Alabama, died Friday.

She grew up and attended school in Ohio and then moved to Florida and finished her schooling.

Mrs. Ballard moved to California in 1941 and to Post Falls in 1977.

She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Bernard “Jess”; a son, Roger Ballard of California; a daughter, Lydia Smith of Post Falls; two sisters, Lillian McChesney of Post Falls and Virginia Tenney of Ohio; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Idaho.

Annie (Hyden) Utley Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Annie Rebecca (Hyden) Utley, 88, will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Graveside service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Mrs. Utley, who was born in Arkansas, died Saturday.

She moved to California in 1945, where she lived until moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1987.

Mrs. Utley was preceded in death by two husbands, Jesse Hyden and Ralph Utley.

Survivors include two sons, Jess Hyden of Coeur d’Alene and Richard Hyden of California; a sister, Eunice Parson of Arizona; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Roy Logsdon Spokane

No service will be held for Roy Logsdon at his request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Logsdon, 74, died Saturday.

He was a lifetime Spokane resident and worked as a driver in a sales/service business.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Margherita; a son, Paul Logsdon of Spokane; a daughter, Kathleen Hendricks of Fair Oaks, Calif.; two sisters, Jean Doolittle of Priest River, Idaho, and Marie Hayes of Salem, Ore.; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Rex Mooney Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for Rex A. Mooney, 95, was Monday at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mooney, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Friday.

He was a lifelong Coeur d’Alene resident and had worked as a logger in the area.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Mooney of Dalton Gardens; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rolla ‘Jock’ Hughes Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Rolla “Jock” Hughes, 60, will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hughes, who was born in Illinois, died Thursday.

He had served as a jet mechanic for 20 years in the Navy before retiring in 1979.

Mr. Hughes lived in Illinois until moving to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1993.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Edith “Natalie”; a daughter, Joni Plew of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters, Mary Lou Smith and Doris Harrison, both of Illinois; and two grandsons.

Russell Johnson Spokane

No service will be held for Russell Johnson, 77, at his request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, who was born in Baudette, Minn., died Saturday.

He served in the Air Force and retired from Kaiser Mead in 1981 after 30 years.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the Kaiser’s Supervisors Club.

His wife, Joyce, died last month.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Harriet Sullivan of Mead; two stepsons, Darreld Dunn of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Phillip Dunn of Spokane; a brother, Ralph Johnson of California; three sisters, Hazel Hays, Dorothy Sleeman and Ruth Hart, all of Spokane; and nine grandchildren.

Yvonne Brown Spokane

Visitation for Yvonne M. Brown, 79, will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 16th Ward. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Brown, a 48-year Spokane resident, died Friday.

She was born in Salt Lake City and worked as an accountant for various businesses.

Mrs. Brown was active with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 16th Ward.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Harold; two daughters, Beverly Powell of Newman Lake and Susan Binnall of Waltham, Mass.; four sons, George and Victor Brown, both of Auburn, Wash., Harold Brown of Cheney and Timothy Brown of Veradale; two brothers, Marvin Taufer of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and Stanley Taufer of Pacifica, Calif.; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Beryl Klingbeil Spokane

Visitation for Beryl E. Klingbeil, 78, will be from noon to 6 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Klingbeil, who was born in Tekoa, Wash., died Sunday.

He served in the Army during World War II as a sergeant.

In 1956 he married Jean Sutton in Rosalia, Wash., and he worked for many years at Dorsey Chevrolet as an auto mechanic.

Mr. Klingbeil was a lifetime resident of the area.

Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Don Klingbeil of Valley, Wash., and Dale Klingbeil of Spokane; and three sisters, Eva Griffin of Spokane, Marjorie Robinson of Fairfield and Wanda Scheahan of Rosalia, Wash.

Tillie Boe Coeur d’Alene

Burial for Tillie J. Boe, 90, will be held at a later date in Mesa, Ariz. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Boe, who was born in Langford, S.D., died Saturday.

She graduated from high school and then attended Northern College in South Dakota for one year.

Mrs. Boe was a farmer in South Dakota until moving to Mesa in 1948.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1987 and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mesa.

Her husband, Arthur, died in 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Wenick of Post Falls and Leone Boe of Montana; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Carl Thornbrue Spokane

Graveside service for Carl N. Thornbrue, 93, was Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thornbrue, who was born in Washington state, died Friday.

He served in the Army during World War II and retired from the Quartermaster Corps as a captain after 27 years.

Mr. Thornbrue then became the branch manager of the U.S. Bank at Fairchild Air Force Base for eight years.

He was a 43-year Spokane resident, a member of the El Katif Shrine, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the Oriental Masonic Lodge No. 74, the Sadir Khan Grotto, the White Rose Chapter No. 230 of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Greta; a daughter, Della Valk; two grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.

Mark Repko San Antonio

Memorial service for Mark A. Repko, 31, was held at Fairchild Air Force Base Survival School. Funeral and burial service was Feb. 16 in Sandwich, Ill. A second memorial service was Feb. 20 at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Mr. Repko, who was born in Sandwich, died Feb. 11.

He served in the Air Force as a survival instructor while assigned at Fairchild Air Force Base. He lived in the Spokane area for 10 years before being transferred to San Antonio two years ago.

Survivors include two daughters, Jessica and Brianne, both of San Antonio; his mother and stepfather, Ellie and Arnie Allen of Sandwich; his father, Jerry Repko of Sandwich; and three sisters, Melissa Wright, Melody Repko and Danielle Monti, all of Sandwich.

Geneva Sandry Spokane

Memorial service for Geneva F. Sandry, 84, will be in Great Falls, Mont., at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sandry, a 22-year resident of Spokane, died Friday.

She was born in Hamlet, N.D., and graduated from high school there.

Mrs. Sandry worked as a cook in Great Falls, including many years at the Meadowlark Country Club.

Her husband, Ralph, died in 1971.

Survivors include two sons, Tom Sandry of Spokane and Allen Sandry of Waipahu, Hawaii; two sisters, Atta Vaagen of Salem, Ore., and Alice Kohel of Spokane; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
