Ida (Shaw) Storkson Spokane

Service for Ida Elizabeth (Shaw) Storkson, 91, will be at 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Storkson, who was born in Govan, Wash., died Saturday.

She graduated in 1925 from North Central High School and worked as a waitress.

Mrs. Storkson was a member of the Orchard Prairie Homemakers Club, Sons of Norway, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 1474 and the Rabbit Breeders Association.

Her husband, Ernest Storkson, died in 1980.

Survivors include five daughters, Virginia Havelick, Nancy Rizzo and Neva Spooner, all of Spokane, Colleen Kelley of East Wenatchee and Priscilla Stambaugh of Watsonville, Calif.; a brother, Thomas Shaw of Salem, Ore.; 24 grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and three great-great-granddaughters.

Eva Ribble Spokane

Mass of Christian Burial for Eva R. Ribble, 97, will be at 10 a.m. today at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Private entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ribble, who was born in Superior, Wis., died Sunday.

She married Merritt Ribble in Duluth, Minn., and they lived in Duluth, Minneapolis, Ladysmith, Wis., Aberdeen, S.D., Chicago and Houston before moving to Spokane in 1965.

Mrs. Ribble worked as a homemaker and was a member of The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Altar Society and the Spokane Club.

Her husband died in 1976.

Survivors include a son, The Rev. James Ribble, the rector of The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Agnes Brown Spokane

Vigil service for Agnes K. Brown, 78, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown, who died Monday, was born in Sydney, Mont.

She moved with her family to Spokane at an early age.

In 1943, she married Joseph Brown. He died in 1991.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker.

Survivors include four daughters, Paulette of Ellensburg, Katherine of Dayton, Ohio, Jennifer of Nampa, Idaho, and Victoria of Lincoln, Neb.; three sons, Randy of Seattle, Joseph of Spokane and Gregory of Richland; 24 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Beryl Klingbeil Spokane

Visitation for Beryl E. Klingbeil, 78, will be from 9 to 11 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Klingbeil, who was born in Tekoa, Wash., died Sunday.

He served in the Army during World War II as a sergeant.

In 1956 he married Jean Sutton in Rosalia, Wash., and he worked for many years at Dorsey Chevrolet as an auto mechanic.

Mr. Klingbeil was a lifetime resident of the area.

Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Don Klingbeil of Valley, Wash., and Dale Klingbeil of Spokane; and three sisters, Eva Griffith of Spokane, Marjorie Robinson of Fairfield and Wanda Scheahan of Rosalia, Wash.

Matthew Sprague Sr. Umatilla, Ore.

No service will be held for Matthew James “Matt” Sprague Sr., 41, at his request. Inurnment will be on his father’s grave in Vancouver, Wash., at a later date. Burns Mortuary in Hermiston Ore., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sprague, who was born in Vancouver, died Saturday.

He had worked as a long-haul truck driver for Sunrise Trucking and Contracting in Spokane.

Mr. Sprague moved to Umatilla five years ago from Spokane.

Survivors include two sons, Matthew Sprague Jr. of Hermiston and Mark Sprague of Montana; a daughter, April Sprague of Spokane; his mother, Betty Sprague of Vancouver; a half-brother, Steve Sprague of Tacoma; and two sisters, Penny Matkins of Central Point, Ore., and Kathy Sprague of Beaverton, Ore.

Arthur Phillips Spokane

Visitation for Arthur C. Phillips, 87, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Phillips, a 67-year Spokane resident, died Sunday.

He was born in Othello, Wash., and farmed there until moving to Spokane in the early 1930s.

Mr. Phillips had been a bandsaw operator at Long Lake Lumber Company for 23 years and was later employed by the City of Spokane in street maintenance.

He also worked as an elevator operator in the Old City Hall and was a caretaker of Corbin House and for the Parks Department. He retired from the City of Spokane in 1974.

Mr. Phillips was a 20-year member of the Spokane Eagles Lodge 2 and was a 35-year member of the Foresters.

His wife of 20 years, Corda Phillips, died in 1994.

He is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Newell at home; a brother, Frank Phillips of Spokane; two sisters, Pearl Cornwell of Quincy, Wash., and Loretta Olson of Coeur d’Alene; a granddaughter and six great-grandchildren.

Carl Thornbrue Spokane

Graveside service for Carl N. Thornbrue, 93, was Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hazen and Jager Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thornbrue, who was born in Washington state, died Friday.

He served in the Army during World War II and retired from the Quartermaster Corps as a captain after 27 years.

Mr. Thornbrue then became the branch manager of the U.S. Bank at Fairchild Air Force Base for eight years.

He was a 43-year Spokane resident, a member of the El Katif Shrine, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the Oriental Masonic Lodge No. 74, the Sadir Khan Grotto, the White Rose Chapter No. 230 of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Greta; a daughter, Della Valk; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and three great-great-grandchildren.

Bernice (Yandt) Perguidi Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Bernice Elizabeth (Yandt) Perguidi, 77, will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Forest Cemetery, Riverview Section, Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Perguidi, who was born in Minnesota, died Saturday.

She grew up in Minnesota and moved to Coeur d’Alene in the 1930s and lived in the Fort Grounds area.

Mrs. Perguidi was preceded in death by two husbands, Reine Yandt in 1978 and Orlando “Tex” Perguidi in 1997.

Survivors include three sons, Ron Yandt of Spokane, Dennis Yandt of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and David Yandt of California; a stepson, Raymond Perguidi, and a stepdaughter, Barbara Perguidi, both of New Mexico; a brother, Elmer Erdmann of California; a sister, Edna Fabian of Minnesota; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Roscoe Turner Springdale, Wash.

Inurnment for Roscoe Lee Turner, 89, will be at a later date in Richland. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Turner, who was born in Bevier, Mo., died Sunday.

He served in the Army and worked as a pipefitter and plumber in heavy and commercial construction.

Mr. Turner was a former resident of the Tri-Cities and was a Mason.

His wife, Helen Turner, died in 1993.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald ‘Rick’ Martin Spokane

Memorial service for Donald “Rick” Martin, 44, is set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Martin, who was born in Coos Bay, Ore., died Saturday.

He graduated in 1972 from Cheney High School and in 1978 from Eastern Washington University.

In 1974, he married Janet Coy in Spokane Mr. Martin worked as a supervisor for Sacred Heart Hospital for 22 years.

He was a member of the Spokane Eagles.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Paul Martin at home; his parents, Charlie and Mary Martin of Florence, Ore.; four sisters, Kathy Caywood of Robins, Ga., Cheryl Gillispee of Enterprise, Ore., Sue Robinson of Coos Bay, and Joanne Martin of Seattle; and grandmothers, Laura Waugh of Coquille, Ore., and Grace Martin of Florence, Ore.

Florence Veter Spokane

Funeral Mass for Florence Marie Veter, 88, is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dean and Walnut. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Veter, who was born in Salt Lake City, died Sunday.

She moved to Calabria, Italy, when she was 11 years old and spent 10 years there before returning to Spokane.

Mrs. Veter was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Her husband of 50 years, Dominic Veter, died in 1982.

Survivors include five daughters, Nancy Bymers, Doris Variano, Irene Montagna, Judy Doherty and Linda Oltmann; three sons, Don, Ron and Dennis Veter; three sisters; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edith Benner Spokane

Memorial service for Edith K. Benner, 82, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Endicott (Wash.) Congregational Church. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Benner, who was born in Endicott, died Sunday.

She graduated in 1933 from Endicott High School.

In 1938 she married William Benner in Endicott and they later moved to Spokane.

Mrs. Benner lived in Spokane for 54 years and served on the Election Board.

She was a member of Endicott Congregational Church.

Her husband died in 1976.

She is survived by a daughter, Loretta Anderson of Spokane; a brother, Don Schmick of Colfax; two sisters, Dorothy Nicley of Vancouver, Wash., and Lorraine Beardemphl of Edmonds, Wash.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Betty Shaw Spokane

Memorial service for Betty Lynne Shaw, 39, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Jefferson St. Christian Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shaw, a 10-year resident of Spokane, died Saturday.

She was born in Shelton, Wash., and was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include a son, Robert Shaw of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Danielle Shaw of Phoenix; and a grandson.

Carol Moore Spokane

Memorial service for Carol M. Moore, 65, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Moore, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Sunday.

She was born in Hillyard and worked as a retail clerk for several years.

Mrs. Moore was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 1474 and the Retail Clerks Union 400.

She is survived by her husband, Sam; two daughters, Janelle Hiccox of Davenport, Wash., and Barbara Anyan of Nine Mile Falls; three sons, Scott Harris of Littlerock, Calif., Marty Harris of Vancouver, Wash., and David Moore of Waukesha, Wis.; a brother, Frank Kerr of Spokane; and 14 grandchildren.

Mike Mantese Spokane

Service for Mike Joseph Mantese, 85, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Mantese, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Sunday.

He served in the Navy during World War II and later worked as a finisher for a cement company in Spokane.

Mr. Mantese was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474 and the Cement Finishers Union.

Survivors include a stepson, Richard Elmore of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Joan of Spokane; a brother, Roger Mantese of Spokane; and three sisters, Mamie Julian and Esther Scarpelli, both of Spokane and Ida Wells of Clayton, Wash.

June Bailey Liberty Lake

Memorial service for June M. Bailey, 97, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Liberty Lake Community Church. Graveside service will be at a later date in Wenatchee. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bailey, who died Saturday, was born in North Dakota.

She was a member of the National Postmaster’s Association and was postmaster at Liberty Lake from 1952 until her retirement in 1970.

Mrs. Bailey was president and a long-time member of Liberty Lake Garden Gals.

Her husband, Glen Bailey, died in 1952.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Apostol of San Pedro, Calif.; and two grandsons.

Wendy Rohrich Colfax, Wash.

Memorial service for Wendy R. Rohrich, 38, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bruning Funeral Chapel in Colfax.

Mrs. Rohrich, who was born in St. Maries, died Saturday as a result of an auto accident.

She graduated from high school in 1978 and was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Justin Hardgrove and Cody Rohrich, both of Colfax; four daughters, Heidi and Heather Hardgrove and Kathryn and Deana Rohrich, all of Colfax; her parents, Dean and Saundra Burlingame of Colfax; a sister, Darci Burlingame of Anacortes, Wash.; and two brothers, Calvin Burlingame of Gretna, La., and Kevin Burlingame of Colfax.

Earl Martinson Spokane

No service will be held for Earl H. Martinson, 83, at his request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Martinson, who was born in Little Falls-Reardan, Wash., died Friday.

He graduated from Chelan High School and in 1936 from Washington State College. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi and Alpha Delta Sigma fraternities.

Mr. Martinson started his business career at Washington Water Power in 1936. From 1949 to 1967 he worked for Ebasco Services Inc. in New York.

In 1949 he married Peggy Fellows.

He returned to Spokane and opened his own business called Data Systems Consultants and was a founder of Itron.

Mr. Martinson was a member of the Rotary Club of Spokane and had more than 20 years of perfect attendance. He was also a member of the Associated Engineers, Oden, and was a former board member of Goodwill Industries.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sandra Martinson of Spokane; a son, Greg Martinson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and two granddaughters.

Gloria Ritter Sprague, Wash.

Memorial service for Gloria B. Ritter, 82, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sprague Lutheran Church. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ritter, who was born in Newport, Wash., died Sunday.

She was raised in the Cusick, Wash., area and in 1933 graduated from high school there.

In 1934 she married Frank Ritter in Newport. They moved to the Tri-Cities in 1943.

Mrs. Ritter worked on the Hanford Reservation for 20 years for General Electric and moved to Sprague in 1969. There, she worked for the Sprague School District as a special assistant. She retired in 1984.

She was a member of Sprague Lutheran Church and Sprague Senior Citizens.

Her husband died in 1993.

Mrs. Ritter is survived by a son, Leroy Ritter of St. John, Wash.; two daughters, Margaret of Renton, Wash., and Patricia Moore of Aberdeen, N.Y.; two brothers, Bruce Bend of Cusick and Earl Bend of Portland; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Viola Linden Moses Lake

Memorial service for Viola A. Linden, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Kayser’s Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Linden, who was born in North Dakota, died Monday.

She moved to Spokane as a child and graduated from the old Hillyard High School.

In 1933 she married Lincoln Linden in Spokane and in 1947 they moved to Priest River, Idaho, where they operated a tire business.

She was employed as postmaster in Priest River for two years and then managed the Priest River liquor store until her retirement in 1975.

Mrs. Linden moved to Moses Lake in 1992.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Storey of Moses Lake and Nancy Knoll of Clarkston, Wash.; three brothers, Ben LaPoint of Spokane, Chester LaPoint of McMinville, Ore., and Frank LaPoint of Union, Wash.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Jacob ‘Si’ Siver Spokane

No service will be held for Jacob W. “Si” Siver, 92, at his request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Siver, who was born in Roscoe, S.D., died Saturday.

He moved to Spokane when he was very young and worked as a clerk for the railroad.

His first wife, Fern, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Pogie and a son, Chuck Siver.
