Aggers Named Coach Of Year
Eastern Washington University’s Steve Aggers has been named the Big Sky Conference’s men’s basketball coach of the year by a vote of the league’s coaches.
Aggers, in his third season at EWU, led his team to a 16-11 record and a tie for third place in the conference with a 10-6 mark. The Eagles also made their first appearance in the conference tournament in eight years.
Picked by sportswriters and head coaches to finish eighth in the nine-member Big Sky, EWU swept three league teams and also defeated Montana and Montana State. The only team to beat the Eagles twice this season was regular-season and tournament champion Northern Arizona.
Meg Sanders of Northern Arizona was the women’s coach of the year. She led her Lumberjacks (22-6) to a share of their first Big Sky title. NAU’s second-year coach set 32 team records, including most overall wins, conference wins and consecutive wins.
