‘The Foreigner’ Opens At Lake City Playhouse

Theater

The Lake City Playhouse opens the Larry Shue comedy “The Foreigner” this weekend in Coeur d’Alene.

“The Foreigner” is a 1984 comedy about a shy young man who spends a weekend in a hunting camp down South. Everyone thinks he’s a “foreigner” who speaks no English.

Soon, he overhears everyone’s private conversations, including some that concern a racist plot. The comedy comes to a climax in a wild scene involving hooded hoodlums.

The Lake City Playhouse production is directed by Dan Gookin. The cast includes Cary Allison, Mike Travis, Donna Weimorts, Frank Fletcher, Cory Rosdahl, Frank Mercer and Philip Morin.

The theater plans a gala opening night celebration on Friday, with complimentary refreshments and hors d’oeuvres and music by the Bluegrass Association. Doors open at 7 p.m. Curtain is at 8.

The run continues Saturday, Sunday and March 20-22, 26-28. Showtimes are 8 p.m. except Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and senior citizens, and $8 for children 12 and under. Call (208) 667-1323 for information. The Playhouse is Coeur d’Alene’s community theater, at 14th and Garden.

‘The Imaginary Invalid’

The Cutter Theatre in Metaline Falls will celebrate its 30th anniversary by restaging the first play the group presented: Moliere’s classic farce, “The Imaginary Invalid.”

This 17th-century comedy is about Monsieur Argan, a confirmed hypochondriac who wants his daughter to marry a physician so he’ll always have a doctor in the house. She is not crazy about that plan. A comedy of errors and mistaken identities ensues. (This should not be confused with the Spokane Civic Theatre’s current production of the same play.)

Theater founder Eva Gayle Six directs this production. David Daniel plays Monsieur Argan and Tessin Parker plays Toinette.

It runs Friday and Saturday and continues March 20-21 at 7:30 p.m each night. Tickets are $4 on opening night and $6 on all other nights. For reservations, call (509) 446-4108. On-site child care is available.
