Fog Plagues Skiing

Compiled From Wire Services

A thick, clinging fog forced race organizers to postpone the final men’s and women’s downhill of a World Cup calendar incessantly disrupted by foul weather.

The women’s downhill was delayed several times until the International Ski Federation (FIS) decided to cancel the race and try to squeeze in the men’s downhill scheduled in the afternoon.

Organizers later changed their minds about canceling the women’s race and said they would instead attempt to shoehorn the two downhills into today’s timetable, before the scheduled men’s and women’s super-G.

It would be the first time FIS would attempt to stage four races in one day. It held an unprecedented three during the Winter Olympics at Nagano, Japan, last month.
