Girl Critical After Being Hit By Car

A 10-year-old Spokane girl remained in critical condition at Deaconess Medical Center late Friday after being hit by a car in north Spokane County, Washington State Patrol troopers said.

Katherine West suffered a closed head injury when she was hit by a car driven by Marguerite Sparks, 78, of Spokane.

Sparks was westbound near 302 Cascade Way when she swerved onto the right shoulder of the road to avoid bright lights from an eastbound car and hit Katherine, troopers said.

An investigation continues.
