Dollar Rises Against Yen, Mark

The dollar jumped to a two-month high against the Japanese yen Monday as rumors of further arrests at Japan’s Finance Ministry added to traders’ worries about the country’s fragile economy.

The U.S. currency also finished slightly higher against the German mark in quiet dealings as traders focused on Japan.

The dollar advanced early against the yen on rumors that more arrests at Japan’s Finance Ministry were imminent. Amid a widening bribery scandal that has stunned Japan’s powerful bureaucracy, the country’s finance minister and another top ministry official have resigned and four other officials have been arrested.
