Search Committee Not Ready With Commish Yet

Bloomberg News

Major League Baseball owners, who hoped to vote on a new commissioner at their meetings in Florida this week, will have to settle for an update.

Colorado Rockies owner Jerry McMorris, head of the commissioner search committee, said he will discuss the process with his fellow executive council members tonight.

McMorris said the search committee could be ready to recommend one or more candidates sometime next month.

“We have a number of supremely qualified people,” McMorris said. “There’s been a bunch.”

Baseball has been without a full-time commissioner since 1992, when the owners fired Fay Vincent. Milwaukee Brewers president and chief executive Bud Selig has been acting commissioner for 5-1/2 years.
