Dick Clark can no longer say, “You’re our newest winner,” unless you really are. Under an agreement announced Monday, American Family publishers, owned in part by Time Inc. Home Entertainment, will stop using that annoying slogan to promote its sweepstakes, and pay a total of $1.25 million to 25 states. AFP also must tell the 200 million consumers it sends mail to each year that they do not have to buy a magazine subscription to enter the sweepstakes, which is promoted by Clark and Ed McMahon. The company has “finally been stopped in the misleading scam they have been running all these years,” said Michigan Attorney General Frank J. Kelley, part of a multistate task force investigating AFP.
