Kids With Matches Set Barn On Fire

Two children playing with matches accidentally burned down a barn at 4905 E. Eighth on Sunday night.

The boys, age 7 and 8, had started several small fires that afternoon, stomping them out afterwards, Valley fire inspector Eric Olson said.

They thought the fires were extinguished, but one smouldered, setting the barn and an attached shed on fire at around 9 p.m.

The buildings, estimated to be worth $15,000, were engulfed by the time firefighters arrived, Olson said. They were vacant except for miscellaneous tools, tires, outdoor equipment and some wood.
