Linsey Heebink Lakeside Year: Senior Sport: Basketball Position: Guard

Whatever plan Connell formulated against Lakeside, it’s doubtful that Linsey Heebink was its big concern.

But that’s what made Heebink so important in Lakeside’s successful drive to the State 2A basketball title.

“Because she doesn’t get a lot of recognition, she’ll beat a lot of teams that will forget about her,” said Lakeside coach Lisa Schultz, less than 72 hours after her Eagles topped Connell 53-36 in Saturday’s title game at the Tacoma Dome.

Heebink scored a team-high 13 points, confounding a Connell defense that focused on Brianne Jolley, Nikki Petticrew and Julia Vojtech.

Heebink never led Lakeside in scoring during a Great Northern League game this year, but she finished No. 2 in overall scoring for the Eagles, at 11.1 ppg.

“She’s not flashy, she won’t be the superstar,” Schultz said. “But she’s the type who will help you win.”

Heebink may play college ball at Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston. Friend and ex-Eagles teammate Lora Jolley is a sophomore for the NAIA eighthranked Warriors.

“Lora will be here for spring break, so we can talk then,” Heebink said.

Heebink and Lora Jolley date former Lakeside wrestlers Ben and Bart Orth, both all-Americans at Central Washington.

Heebink is skipping spring sports to save money for college. She plans to study elementary education.
