Scc President Loses Bakersfield Appointment

From Staff And Wire Reports

James Williams, president of Spokane Community College, lost out on his bid Thursday to lead Bakersfield College in California.

Bakersfield promoted its vice president of student services to president rather than hire from the outside.

Williams was traveling back from Bakersfield and unavailable for comment.

Williams, who came to Spokane in 1995, had said earlier that Bakersfield was one of the few schools he would consider working for because members of his family lived nearby. Bakersfield, with 12,700 students, is nearly twice as large as SCC.

Williams has declined to say whether he is a candidate for chief executive officer of the Community Colleges of Spokane, a post that will be vacated in July. CCS is a district that oversees Spokane Falls Community College, the Institute for Extended Learning and SCC. , DataTimes
