Habitat Breaks Ground For Two New Houses In Valley

A ground blessing ceremony will be held today at the building site of the Valley’s next Habitat for Humanity homes.

The houses will be built near the intersection of Alki and Ella. The ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m.

The land has been divided into four building lots. Two homes will be built this year.

Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of the month.

Each home will cost approximately $50,000 to build.

The Valley Habitat project is being supported by financial contributions and volunteer labor from six Valley churches: Opportunity Presbyterian Church, Spokane Valley Baptist Church, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Zion Lutheran Church, Millwood Community Presbyterian Church and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

‘In Pursuit of Holiness’

Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye, will begin a seven-week adult education class called “In Pursuit of Holiness” on March 29.

The class will be offered each Sunday at 9:45 a.m.

The class will answer questions such as how we can determine right from wrong, how reason and emotions affect our will, and what response Christians should have if ridiculed for holy living.

The class is free and open to all. Child care will be available and older children will have the option of attending Sunday School. For more information, call the church office at 926-5407.

Contemporary worship director

Zion Lutheran Church has recently welcomed Kevin Peterson as the new contemporary worship director.

Peterson currently teaches music education at Shaw Middle School and holds degrees from North Idaho College and Whitworth College.

He previously served as the director of music at the Post Falls Community Presbyterian Church for 11 years.
