Man Injured After Car Collides With Semi

A 41-year-old man was badly hurt Tuesday when his car was hit by a semi-truck in north Spokane, police said.

The crash occurred about 4:40 a.m. at the intersection of Ruby and Jackson.

Police said the victim was driving a Ford Escort west on Jackson when he failed to yield to the semi-truck, which was headed north on Ruby.

The 35,000-pound truck slammed into the Escort on the driver’s side, knocking the car across the intersection.

Police said both drivers’ views may have been blocked by another truck that was turning east onto Jackson at the time of the collision.

The driver of the Escort, Jeffrey C. Crouch of Cheney, was listed in critical condition at a local hospital Tuesday afternoon.

The truck driver, whose name was not released, wasn’t hurt.

Ruby was closed until 7:45 a.m., when police opened two lanes.
