‘Nanny’ Survives High School Reunion

John Martin New York Times Syndicate

It’s a small world. In a special episode of “The Nanny” (CBS at 8) Fran (Fran Drescher) attends her high school reunion, where she is overwhelmed by second thoughts about marrying Maxwell (Charles Shaughnessy).

At the get-together, she runs into former class clown Ray Barone - Ray Romano as his “Everybody Loves Raymond” character. But he’s one of the few people there who is happily married.

Nearly all her female friends she thought were in steady marriages are divorced and bitter.

Worried that the same thing could happen to her, Fran confronts Maxwell with her fears. And that precipitates a nasty fight - their first as an engaged couple. But don’t worry. The long-awaited nuptials are still on by the end of the episode.

So why did I say it’s a small world? For Drescher and Romano it’s truly a reunion. They attended Hillcrest High School in Queens, N.Y., together.
