Up Limits Shipments Via Laredo Gateway

Compiled From Wire Services

Union Pacific Railroad will stop taking new customers for deliveries into Mexico through its Laredo gateway until it can wade through a backlog of railroad cars.

The nation’s biggest railroad said Tuesday it will embargo all new shipments traveling southward through Laredo, except automobiles, as of Saturday.

“It’s because we haven’t been able to get a sufficient number of cars across to reduce the backlog of cars waiting to go south of the border,” said John Bromley, a spokesman for Union Pacific.
