Brianne Jolley and Shannon Russel of girls state championship teams, and Curlew teammates Gunner Olsen and Jeremy Groth are among seven local players honored on The Associated Press all-state basketball teams announced Tuesday.

Reardan’s Kristen Turner, Wilbur-Creston’s Alyssa Erickson and Miranda Routh-Corker of St. George’s were also selected by the state’s sportswriters and broadcasters.

Jolley, a 5-foot-11 senior forward, helped Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls to the State 2A title two weeks ago in Tacoma. Jolley played at four state tournaments and has committed to St. Mary’s (Calif.) University.

Russel, a 5-10 senior guard, tied a tourney record with six 3-pointers as Ritzville (29-0) defeated W-C three weeks ago in the State B title game at the Arena. The 1,000-point career scorer also helped the Broncos to the 1996-97 state title.

Groth, a 5-11 sophomore guard, and Olsen, a 6-3 senior forward, finished 1-2 in Panorama League scoring and led Curlew to its first State B appearance in 26 years. The Cougars reached the semifinals and placed sixth.

Turner, a 6-1 senior post, led the Northeast A League in scoring, at 22.2 ppg.

Erickson was the Bi-County League’s top scorer, at 17.6 ppg. The 5-8 junior wing has helped W-C to top-four finishes at the past three B tourneys.

Routh-Corker was No. 2 in Panorama scoring (19.5 ppg) and bounced back from a late-season illness to charge the Dragons to a third-place finish at the State B. She is a 5-10 senior forward.

The AP’s players of the year were: Jerry Petty, Garfield, 4A boys; Jamal Crawford, Rainier Beach, 3A boys; Luke Ridnour, Blaine, 2A boys; Phil Cullen, Chelan, 1A boys; Jonathan Redding, Chief Leschi, B boys; Tammy Annas, Enumclaw, 4A girls; Sheila Lambert, Chief Sealth, 3A girls; Jamie Craighhead, Elma, 2A girls; Heather Reichmann, King’s, 1A girls; and Katie Davis, Manson, B girls.

Redding played for a state championship team at Leschi of Puyallup, but he was the team’s third-leading scorer (9.6 ppg). Voters may have confused him with teammate Lamont Trent, who averaged 18.3 ppg.
