Manito Council Will Discuss Tree Ordinance

The newly formed Manito Neighborhood Council will meet tonight at 7 to continue work on organizing the neighborhood.

The city’s proposed street tree ordinance will be discussed during the meeting in the Wilson Elementary School library.

At an earlier meeting, the neighborhood elected Dave Godlewski as president; Susan Winchell, vice president; Dave Nelson, secretary-treasurer; and George Withers, communications officer.

About 50 area residents have attended each of the three previous meetings.

The group has formed at least nine subcommittees to study issues in the neighborhood. They include public safety, traffic, historic preservation and urban design, parks and landscaping, publications, churches, education, business and zoning.

The boundaries of the neighborhood are 17th Avenue to the north, Grand Boulevard to the east, 29th Avenue to the south, and High Drive and Cedar Avenue to the west.

Linda Yeomans, who is heading the publications subcommittee, said the council hopes to encourage comments and ideas from as many residents as possible.

“We’re really committed to hearing from everyone,” she said.
