Rep. Jim Clark Seeks Re-Election

Freshman Rep. Jim Clark, R-Hayden, on Thursday announced plans to seek re-election.

Clark said he wants to see his budget stabilization bill in action. The bill requiring the state to beef up its rainy day fund was signed into law by Gov. Phil Batt earlier this week.

Now, in any year that state revenues grow by more than 4 percent, 1 percent of the general fund budget will be transferred to the new fund.

“It’s a good feeling for a freshman who can change the whole budgeting system for the state of Idaho,” Clark said. He said he wants a second term to see if the new law works as intended.

Clark introduced 11 bills during the 1998 Legislative session. Four bills were signed into law - the budget bill and measures that clean up local elections laws, allow local governments to deposit more money than the bank’s $150,000 federal guarantee and reduce the time National Guard members must wait to obtain in-state hunting or fishing licenses.

So far, no challengers have surfaced to run against Clark in the May primary election.
