Seahawks Gather Moss

Compiled From Wire Services

Linebacker Winston Moss, who fractured a bone in his neck last season, announced his retirement after an 11-year NFL career and was named defensive quality coach for the Seattle Seahawks.

Moss and a teammate, linebacker Chad Brown, collided in December on the first play of the Baltimore game. Brown suffered a concussion but, at the time, Moss’ injury was thought to be career-threatening.

Eddie DeBartolo is close to regaining control of the San Francisco 49ers from his sister, who took over after he was named in a federal gambling probe in Louisiana, the San Jose Mercury News is reporting.

DeBartolo is expected to swap his holdings in the family business for his sister’s share of the team.

The Cincinnati Bengals, looking for a backup for Jeff Blake, filled that need by acquiring former Arizona State star Paul Justin from Indianapolis for a fifth-round pick in the April draft.
