76ers, Raptors Are Dealt Fines

Philadelphia 76ers coach Larry Brown and two of his players were fined a total of $15,000 and two Toronto Raptors were suspended and fined Friday by the NBA in separate game incidents.

Raptors’ forwards Gary Trent and Marcus Camby were suspended for leaving the bench during a fight in Thursday night’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Trent also was fined $5,000 and Camby assessed a $2,500 penalty.

Brown and 76ers forward Derrick Coleman and guard Allen Iverson were fined for criticizing the referees after Philadelphia’s 91-86 loss to New Jersey on Wednesday night.

Brown and Coleman were fined $6,000 apiece, Iverson $3,000.

Tractor moving on

No longer willing to help carry the load for Michigan, Robert “Tractor” Traylor said he would forego his senior season with the Wolverines and declared himself eligible for the NBA draft.

“I’ve been through a lot the past three years and I loved it all, but I think right now, it’s time to do things to better myself and be a better man,” Traylor said at a news conference at Detroit’s Murray-Wright High School, his alma mater.

“Hopefully, I’ll be as successful on the next level as I thought I was on this one.”

Wingate activated

The Seattle SuperSonics activated guard-forward David Wingate from the injured list.

Wingate was placed on the injured list March 13 with a strained right hamstring. He missed eight games.

Sale of Raptors approved

The sale of the Toronto Raptors to Maple Leaf Gardens Ltd. received approval from the NBA.

The NBA said the deal, announced Feb. 12, was unanimously approved by the board of governors.

Kupchak pact extended

General manager Mitch Kupchak, rumored to be going elsewhere several times in recent years, has signed a new long-term contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. Terms were not announced.

Kupchak has been with the Lakers as a player or front-office executive since 1981.

Daly wins No. 600

Derek Strong scored 20 points and Horace Grant had 19 as the Orlando Magic beat the Houston Rockets 100-75 Friday night in Orlando to give coach Chuck Daly his 600th career victory.

Elsewhere on the courts

At Dallas, Karl Malone had 33 points and 14 rebounds as the Utah Jazz stretched their winning streak to four games and remained the league’s hottest team with a 99-90 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

Alonzo Mourning scored 34 points and the Miami Heat gained their 50th victory by beating the Milwaukee Bucks 102-77 in Miami.

The Denver Nuggets nailed down victory No. 9, beating Golden State 97-89 in Denver, ensuring themselves of at least tying the record for fewest victories in a single season.

At Sacramento, Calif., Isaiah Rider scored 24 points and Brian Grant had 19 points and 14 rebounds as the Portland Trail Blazers cruised past the Sacramento Kings 90-73.

Sam Mitchell scored eight of his 22 points in the fourth quarter as the Minnesota Timberwolves clinched a playoff berth on the Los Angeles Clippers’ home court for the second straight year with a 100-98 victory.
