Deadline For Removing Studded Tires Delayed

From Staff And Wire Reports

The deadline for removing studded tires has been extended to April 6 because of continuing wintry weather in the Washington Cascades, the state Department of Transportation said.

The original deadline was midnight March 31, and the Transportation Department asks that drivers not planning to cross the mountain passes go ahead and remove their studded tires by then.

The fine for using studded tires after midnight April 6 is $66.

The Transportation Department notes that regular snow tires are legal year-round, as are tire chains.
