Gu Remains Winless In Wcc After 8-7 Loss To Santa Clara

Bill Mott, Ryan Hinn and Ryan Laubach each drove in a pair of runs to lead Santa Clara to an 8-7 win over Gonzaga in West Coast Conference action Friday in Santa Clara, Calif.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 0-10 in conference play and 2-21 overall.

Bo Hart singled, doubled twice and knocked in two runs to lead Gonzaga. The three-game series resumes today with a doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Kevin Miller homered twice to lead 19th-ranked Washington to an 8-6 non-conference win over 16th-ranked Arizona State at Husky Ballpark in Seattle.

The win was the 200th of UW coach Ken Knutson’s career. Washington (15-6) has won eight straight.

Jeff Heaverlo (1-1) pitched 5 innings, striking out eight, to pick up the win. The three-game series continues today with a 1 p.m. contest.

Softball

Community Colleges of Spokane dropped three games Friday at the Dixie Classic tournament in St. George, Utah.

Snow topped the Sasquatch 9-7 in the opener, Ricks won 6-4 and Utah Valley posted a 10-5 win.

Riverside grad Candi Russell and Lakeside grad Sara Schumacher each hit solo homers against Ricks.

CCS (1-4) will play Dixie College today at noon.
