Bouchard Breaks Record
Canada’s Sylvain Bouchard set the world record in the 1,000 meters at the world single-distance speed skating championships.
The 27-year-old’s time of 1 minute, 9.60 seconds, broke the old mark of 1:10.16 set by countryman Jeremy Wotherspoon in 1997.
“It was the best race of my life and it’s my last one and that makes it even greater, this is the best,” Bouchard said. “Everybody knows that’s my last race and I’m glad I had that chance to get that feeling … that big march to the podium.”
Bouchard, who plans to return to college, said he has no plans to return to the sport.
