Tune Into Shocking ‘Melrose’ Finale

John Martin New York Times Syndicate

FOX’s “Melrose Place” at 8 is so famous for its cliff-hanging season finales that some fans have second thoughts about tuning in. You know that after a couple of hours of shocking revelations and unexpected thrills you’re bound to be left in the lurch until next season.

Tonight’s two-hour-long episode finds Amanda (Heather Locklear) faced with a difficult choice: Will she choose the dangerously alluring Rory (Anthony Tyler Quinn) over Kyle (Rob Estes)?

But that’s only one of many matters that may or may not be resolved. Kyle presses Taylor (Lisa Rinna) for answers about Christine’s death. But Taylor is consumed with a paternity test to determine the father of her baby.

Jennifer (Alyssa Milano) goes all out to win Billy’s (Andrew Shue) affection. He’s focused on Sam’s (Brooke Langton) relationship with Jeff (Dan Gauthier) - which leads to someone landing in the hospital.

There’s more, including Coop’s (Linden Ashby) dilemma over Megan (Kelly Rutherford), who is haunted by her past. And a wilderness adventure turns into terror for Peter (Jack Wagner) and Michael (Thomas Calabro).

Fasten your seat belts. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Highlights “Suddenly Susan,” NBC at 8: In one of the series’ wackier outings, Luis (Nestor Carbonell) feels as though the American Dream is anything but when he’s discriminated against by a car-rental dealer.

In fantasy sequences we see him as Ricky Ricardo with Vicki (Kathy Griffin) as Lucy. Ward and June Clever (Judd Nelson, Brooke Shields) and The Beaver (David Strickland) show up as well. Maddy (Andrea Bendewald) pops up as “I Dream of Jeannie’s” title character. Repeat.

“Everybody Loves Raymond,” CBS at 9: Married golfers can identify with this repeat. Raymond (Ray Romano) feels so guilty about tricking Debra (Patricia Heaton) into letting him play golf that he has an anxiety attack.

Then, his doctor prescribes more golf as a way of relieving stress.

Oh, baby.

“House Rules,” NBC at 8:30: In one of the evening’s few first-run shows, McCusky (David Newsom) hosts his sister (Jennifer Aspen) who is considering becoming a nun. But, much to his horror, she takes a liking to his roommates’ hedonistic lifestyle. Meanwhile, McCusky, Riley (Bradley White) and Casey (Maria Pitillo) sabotage each other’s entries in an annual chili cook-off.

“Basketball,” CBS at 6: The road to the NCAA Division 1 Final Four reaches its climax as college basketball crowns its national champions, live from San Antonio.

Cable Calls

“Biography,” A&E at 5 and 9: “Lady Bird Johnson: The Texas Wildflower” features interviews with the former first lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton, former Texas Governor Ann Richards, Luci Baines Johnson and Lynda Robb.

This hour traces her rise as a political wife, mother, businesswoman and champion of such causes as Head Start and her husband’s War on Poverty. The past two decades, she has worked toward beautifying America through her National Wildflower Research Center.

“Cries From the Heart” (1994), LIF at 9: Controversial “facilitated communication” (when a teacher or a counselor guides a nonspeaking person’s hand on a typewriter keyboard to spell out words) is at the heart of this TV movie.

The technique is used in court in the case of a young autistic boy (Bradley Pierce) allegedly molested by his caretaker. Patty Duke and Melissa Gilbert star.
