Dollar Up In Europe

The dollar rose against most other major currencies in European trading Monday. Gold prices fell.

In London, the dollar was quoted in late trading at 132.13 Japanese yen, up from 130.15 late Friday, and 1.8454 German marks, up from 1.8260.

At midday in New York, the dollar was worth 132.13 yen and 1.8459 marks.

The British pound was quoted at $1.6775, down from $1.6825. In New York, the pound fetched $1.6790 at midday.

Other dollar rates at midday in New York included: 1.5199 Swiss francs, 6.1859 French francs, 1,819.00 Italian lire, and 1.4211 Canadian dollars.

Gold in London closed at $302.30 per ounce, down from $303.50 late Friday.
