Holyfield States He’d Never Duck Lewis

Evander Holyfield manufactured a Don King dream at a news conference. He unleashed a verbal assault on another heavyweight that could be parlayed into a promotion and solid pay-per-view sales., Only one problem. Holyfield wasn’t talking about Henry Akinwande, the 6-foot-7 enigma he will oppose June 6 at Madison Square Garden. A conference meant to hype that fight instead turned into a give-and-take on why a title unification bout between Holyfield and Lennox Lewis hasn’t been arranged.

It gave Holyfield a chance to unload on Lewis and critics who have concluded the WBA and IBF champion is ducking Lewis.

“I have never ducked anybody - and of all the fighters, I wouldn’t duck Lennox,” Holyfield said. “He fits my style, just like Mike Tyson fits my style. The fact is, when the truth is on the table, people chose not to fight me. Who is ducking who? I’ve got two titles. He’s got one title. He’s never really made a lot of money. So it seems if he really wanted to fight me, he should do what’s necessary.”
