Elmer ‘Whitey’ Kromm Colfax, Wash.

Funeral for Elmer ‘Whitey’ Kromm, 78, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kromm, who was born in Endicott, Wash., died Sunday.

He moved to Colfax as a child and graduated in 1939 from Colfax High School where he was active in all sports.

After his schooling, he worked on the naval base in Bayview, Idaho, and then for Roger Brothers Seed Co. in Colfax.

In 1943 he married Sue Ellen Watson in Colfax and worked for the Washington State Highway Department until his retirement in 1980.

Mr. Kromm coached Little League baseball for many years and was a member of the Lutheran church.

He was a member of the Colfax Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge, Retired State Workers, Colfax Men’s Bowling Association and the Whitman County Baseball Officials Association. He was selected as a member of the Inland Empire Softball Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, Mike Kromm of George, Wash., Don Kromm of Spokane, Sam Kromm of Snoqualmie, Wash., Ben Kromm of Kailua, Hawaii, Bob Kromm of Lynnwood, Wash., and John Kromm of Colfax; a sister, Lydia McKarcher of Pullman; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Whitman Hospital and Medical Center or to the Whitman Health and Rehab Center.

Stillman Webb Nine Mile Falls

Funeral for Stillman F. Webb, 81, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Webb, who was born in Burnett, Texas, died Friday..

He was raised in Montana and worked as a shepherd, cowboy, ranch hand, miner, bartender, lumberjack, crane operator, framer and struggling cowboy poet.

Mr. Webb was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army on the invasions of Attu, Kwajalein, Leyte and Okinawa.

In 1979 he retired from Kaiser Mead after 29 years of employment.

Mr. Webb’s book of poems, “Older Thank Dirt … And Still Diggin It,” was published.

He belonged to the Cowboy Poetry Association and was a member of the Suncrest Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Erma; two daughters, Char Frank and Barbara Thompson; a son, Jim Hammond; two sisters, Alta Yates and Gwen Hall; two brothers, Boyd and Ray Webb; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Adolph Fricke Spokane

Memorial service for Adolph Heinrich Fricke, 98, was Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fricke, who was a 60-year resident of Spokane, died Thursday.

He was born in Hanover, Germany, and studied to become an ornamental iron craftsman.

Mr. Fricke served in the navy during World War I before immigrating to the United States in 1923.

In 1927 he married Lillian Sadusky in Chicago. In 1937, they moved to Spokane, where he worked for Brown Johnston Electric (Columbia Lighting) and Metallic Arts before starting Fricke Ornamental Iron and Fireplace Shop in 1947.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

His wife preceded him in death.

Mr. Fricke is survived by his companion, Irene McGrady; a daughter, Joyce Gammal of Orlando, Fla.; a son, Fred Fricke of Spokane; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Della (Schenk) Schorzman Spokane

Memorial service for Della Irene (Schenk) Schorzman, 79, will be at 3 p.m. today at Fourth Memorial Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Schorzman, who was born in Burley, Idaho, died Wednesday.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Harrison of Spanaway, Wash., and Marlene White of Spokane; five sisters; two brothers; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Floy Harrington Spokane

Funeral for Floy P. Harrington, 87, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Spangle Community Church in Spangle. Burial will follow at the Spangle Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Harrington, who was born in Ruebens, Idaho, died Wednesday.

She graduated from Ruebens High School and lived in Curlew, Wash., for 12 years.

In 1944, Mrs. Harrington moved to Spangle, where she lived until moving to Spokane in 1988.

She taught Sunday school for many years at the Spangle Community Church and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Spangle.

Her husband, Ralph Harrington, died in 1974.

Survivors include a son, Lewis Harrington of Spangle; a daughter, Louise Hartman of Spokane; a sister, Goldie Lembcke of Spokane; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Elma Dietrich Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Elma M. Dietrich, 80, will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 111 Locust Ave., Coeur d’Alene. Service will follow Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Prairie View Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Dietrich, who was born in North Dakota, died Thursday.

She grew up in North Dakota and was a farmer before moving to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1948.

Mrs. Dietrich worked as a cook at Sunset Terrace Convalescent Center and Camlu Apartments before retiring in 1973.

She was a member of the Seventhday Adventist Church and served as a deaconess and leader of the Children’s Sabbath School.

Survivors include her husband of more than 60 years, Al; two sons, Gerald Dietrich of Port Orchard, Wash., and Bruce Dietrich of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Vivian Bighaus of Oregon; and a sister, Edna Norris of Bothell, Wash.

John Maidhoff Spokane

Memorial service for John A. Maidhoff, 19, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Maidhoff, who was born and raised in Spokane, died Saturday from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Spokane.

He worked as a painter.

He is survived by his mother, Janice Maidhoff at home; his father, Ernest Maidhoff of Spokane; two sisters, Dolly and Zenna Underwood, both of Spokane; and his maternal grandmother, Doris Souza of Oakdale, Calif.

Clarence Sheldon Moses Lake

Funeral for Clarence H. Sheldon, 83, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Sheldon, who was born in Battle Creek, Mich., died Thursday.

He worked for a subsidiary of Washington Water Power for numerous years after working as a house painter.

Mr. Sheldon was an active member of the Northwest Mining Association and the Teamsters Union.

He pursued mushroom hunting and was involved in mining thorium near Bonners Ferry.

Mr. Sheldon moved to Moses Lake in 1993 after living in Spokane for 50 years.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, June; a daughter, Carol Haegele of Warden, Wash.; two sons, Donald Sheldon of Picayune, Miss., and Larry Sheldon of Aurora, Colo.; a sister of Battle Creek, Mich.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Edna Mackey Spokane

Visitation for Edna Mackey, 91, will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Mackey, a 32-year resident of Spokane, died Thursday.

She was born in Palouse, Wash. and in 1923 married Guy Hackey in Lewiston. In 1936 they moved to Montana where they lived until moving to Spokane.

Mrs. Mackey was a homemaker.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Hazel Everson of Twin Falls, Idaho, Violet Bradshaw of Spokane and Doris Randolph of Everett; two sons, Robert Mackey of Troy, Mont., and Ronald Mackey of Florence, Mont.; two sisters, Anna McBride and Verna Armstrong, both of Spokane; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Vivian Courteau Spokane

Funeral for Vivian R. Courteau, 44, will be at 1 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in St. John, Wash.

Mrs. Courteau, who was born in Trenton, N.J., died Wednesday.

In 1983 she married Mike Courteau in Spokane, where she had lived for the past 22 years.

She was a homemaker, and was a member of the Jacobstown, N.J., Baptist Church and Central Park Racquet Club.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Mark Courteau; her parents C.A. Jr. and Vera Miller of New Egypt, N.J.; and a sister, Muriel Jordan of St. John, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ogden Hall Shelter for Women.

Hazel Deane Spokane

No service will be held for Hazel Deane. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Deane, 74, died March 14.

She was born in Winlock, Wash., and grew up in Toledo, Wash.

Mrs. Deane lived on Whidbey Island for 25 years and then moved to Coulee City, Wash., for 15 years. She moved to Spokane in 1988.

Mrs. Dean was a homemaker and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Coulee City.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, DeWitt; a son, Bruce Deane of Port Angeles, Wash.; a daughter, Carla Swanzy of Olympia; two sisters, Marla Knopp of Spokane and Helen Mickelsen of Winlock, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

James Bren Post Falls

Viewing for James W. Bren, 82, will be today from 9 to 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Service will follow at 1 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Bren, who was born in South Dakota, died Friday.

In the early 1930s he moved to Minnesota where he farmed in various locations and ran a hunting lodge for many years.

Mr. Bren continued farming until 1960 when he moved to Post Falls and worked for the U.S. Forest Service and the Post Falls School District. He retired in 1977.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Myrtle; three sons, James Bren of Newman Lake, Wash., Vernon Bren of Spokane and Donald Bren of Lewistown, Mont.; a sister, Frances of Minnesota; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Madeline Marshall Spokane

Memorial service for Madeline Fanning Marshall, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Waterford. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Marshall, who was a 51-year resident of Spokane, died March 22.

She was born in Pilot Rock, Ore., and graduated from the University of Washington.

Mrs. Marshall had a long history of volunteer activity in the community and was a member of the Presbyterian Church Guild, the Rockwood Garden Club and the Assistants.

She had sold real estate for a time during the 1960s.

Her husband, John Marshall, died in 1992.

Survivors include a son, John Marshall II of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Linda Lee Marshall of Boise; and two grandchildren.
