Weekend fires investigated

Spokane County Fire District 8 officials investigated two house fires last weekend.

District 8 and District 11 firefighters were called to a house on Harvard Branch Road north of Elder Road on the afternoon of July 31. The split-level house was gutted in a blaze that started in one of the bedrooms, said District 8 Lt. Tim Archer.

The fire was reported by a neighbor, Archer said.

The cause of that fire remains under investigation.

Later that day, at approximately 8 p.m., a mobile home caught fire. The home was located just off Highway 27 on Vicari Road.

No one was home at the time of the blaze, which was thought to be caused by an electrical problem in the wall, Archer said. The insurance company declared the 1969 home totaled, and it will be replaced using the same foundation the mobile home had rested on, Archer said.
