‘Pea’ auditions planned

Spokane Children’s Theatre will hold auditions next Sunday and Aug. 16 for its upcoming production of “The Princess and the Pea.”

Director Jan Canfield is seeking’ three boys or men and eight girls or women for the cast (no singing necessary).

Auditions will begin at 3 p.m. next Sunday and at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 16 at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St. (go to the north main entrance of building 1).

• Lake City Playhouse Readers’ Theatre will hold auditions for “Mrs. Warren’s Profession” on Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Harding Family Center meeting room, 411 N. 15th St., Coeur d’Alene.

There will be one performance only, Sept. 15, at Little Seattle in Coeur d’Alene.

Kudos

• Steve Wing of Spokane received third place in the juvenile/young adult novel category of the Pacific Northwest Writers Association 2004 Literary Contest for his entry, “The Legend of Vanilla Godzilla.”

• Linda Besse of Mead has been selected into the Second Top 100 of the 2004 Arts for the Parks competition for her oil painting “Honkers,” featuring the Assateague Island, Nova Scotia.

The annual competition is designed to support and promote national parks through art.

Top award winners will be announced in September.

Classes

Registration begins Thursday for Christian Youth Theater-Spokane’s fall session of theater art classes, which starts Sept. 6.

Classes are offered in such areas as voice, drama, dance, hip-hop, accents and dialects, and stunts and combat.

Classes are open to children ages 6-18. Tuition is $105 to $130 for 10-week sessions, with a $20 discount for early registration.

Classes meet from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays at 13521 N. Mill Road and Thursdays at 714 S. Pines Road.
