Giants 7, Pirates 0: Jason Schmidt pitched a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts for his N.L.-leading 15th victory as San Francisco won in Pittsburgh. Schmidt (15-4) walked one against his former team and allowed only four singles. It was Schmidt’s eighth career shutout and third this season.

Padres 5, Cubs 4 (11): Khalil Greene singled home the go-ahead run in the 11th inning as San Diego won in Chicago to move within a game of the N.L. wild-card lead. The Padres tied the game at 4 in the eighth on Brian Giles’ RBI single off Mike Remlinger after Nomar Garciaparra hit a two-run homer in the seventh to give Chicago the lead.

Marlins 8, Cardinals 2: A.J. Burnett pitched seven innings, Damion Easley drove in three runs and Florida took advantage of sloppy defense to beat visiting St. Louis. Burnett (3-5) allowed five hits and two runs and struck out seven.

Reds 6, Dodgers 5: D’Angelo Jimenez singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as Cincinnati rallied past visiting Los Angeles. The Reds scored three times in the eighth off Darren Dreifort (1-3), including a two-run homer by Wily Mo Pena, his 19th.

Rockies 3, Phillies 1: Shawn Estes allowed one run in six innings and Royce Clayton hit a two-run homer to lead Colorado to a win in Philadelphia. The Rockies took three of four in the series.

Mets 2, Astros 1: Joe McEwing’s go-ahead single in the seventh off former-Met David Weathers sent New York to a win over visiting Houston. Victor Zambrano (2-0) won his second straight start with the Mets, allowing an unearned run and two hits in seven innings.

Braves 4, Brewers 2: Jaret Wright won his ninth straight decision and J.D. Drew hit a go-ahead homer to help Atlanta beat visiting Milwaukee. The Braves are 20-6 since the All-Star break.

Expos 7, Diamondbacks 5: Tony Batista homered and drove in four runs as Montreal completed a three-game sweep of visiting Arizona. The Expos won their fifth straight and sent Arizona to its seventh loss in a row.
