Cassandra Reid

St. Maries

Memorial service for 3-day-old Cassandra Leigh Reid was Tuesday at Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries.

Cassandra was born in St. Maries on last Wednesday to Jason Reid and Anne Behrends.

Survivors include her parents, of St. Maries; grandparents Wayne and Teresa Reid of St. Maries, and Liz Behrends of Post Falls; four great-grandmothers, Louise Reid, Maggie Pritchett, Betty Behrends and Anna Sines, and great-great-grandmother, Moretta Taylor, all of St. Maries.

Memorials may be made to the Cassandra L. Reid Memorial Fund, care of American West Bank, 1500 Main, St. Maries, ID 83861.

James Brown

Spokane

No service will be held for James Weldon Brown, 84. Neptune Society handled the arrangements.

Mr. Brown, who was born in Ballinger, Texas, died Friday. He was a resident of the Spokane area for 29 years.

He graduated in 1938 from Paso Robles (Calif.) High School.

He served in the Navy during World War II, and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was ships cook 1st class on the USS Medusa.

Mr. Brown worked in the meat industry for 45 years, retiring in 1983. He had also been a police officer.

He was a member of Pearl Harbor Association and Unity Church North.

He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, JoAnne; two sons, Robert Brown of Eugene, Ore., and James Kurushima of Fresno, Calif.; a daughter, Patricia Vicarel of Ohio; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Fronk of Vero Beach, Fla., and Charlotte Mochel of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a stepson, Stuart Duvall of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Charles Dougherty

Spokane

Memorial service is pending for Charles L. Dougherty, 73. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dougherty, who died Monday, was born in Oakland, Calif.

He worked at the Trentwood Post Office as well as the South Hill Post Office and later at Time and Jewelry.

Before his retirement, he worked at Vic’s Restaurant as a janitor.

He enjoyed sports and playing cards.

Survivors include five children, Michael Dougherty, Michelle Stewart, Dawn Simpson, Richard Dougherty and Yvonne Koterba, all of Spokane; his former wife, Betty Duncan; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Inland Northwest Blood Center.

Irene (Hendry) Williams

Kellogg

Memorial service for Irene Vivian Williams, 92, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the United Church in Kellogg. Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Williams, who was born in Waco, Mo., died Monday.

She moved to Wardner, Idaho, in 1928 and married Watkin Williams in 1932. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Williams worked as bookkeeper at the Kellogg J.C. Penney store for 25 years. She also owned Irene’s Ceramics in Hunt Gulch for many years and taught ceramics.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening and crafts and sold her wares at local fairs.

She and her husband maintained a cabin at Black Lake for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Lavigne of Kellogg; three granddaughters, Linda Daley , Connie Williams and Laurie Lavigne; and four great-grandchildren, Ben, Zac, Michael and Chelsea.

Jane Sandberg

Spokane

Private service will be held for Jane Ann Sandberg, 83. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sandberg, who died Friday, was born in Yakima.

She graduated from Lincoln High School in Portland and graduated from Oregon Dental Hygienist School in Portland.

She married Orien Sandberg in 1949.

Mrs. Sandberg worked as a dental hygienist in Portland.

She was a 16-year resident of Spokane and was a member of St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church in the Spokane Valley.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Sandberg of Swan Valley, Idaho, and Ward Sandberg of Spokane; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Edith Doyle

Spokane

Memorial service for Edith O. Doyle, 80, will be today at 11 a.m. at Millwood Community Presbyterian Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Doyle, who died Friday, was born in Mancos, Colo.

She came to Spokane during World War II, and worked at Galena Army Air Base repairing aircraft.

Mrs. Doyle also was a homemaker.

Her husband of 44 years, Glen, died in 1989.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis and Douglas Doyle, both of Spokane; seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Bruce Fisette

Spokane

Memorial service for Bruce David Fisette, 64, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Susie’s Steak and Seafood Ave. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fisette, a 30-year resident of the Spokane area, died Aug. 8. He was born on the Keweenaw Bay Indian Reservation in Barago, Mich.

He graduated from Green Hill Academy and also earned an associates degree from Montana State University.

He served in the Army from 1962 to 1965. Mr. Fisette was self-employed all his life, running his own hearing aid company in Montana and a used-car lot and towing company in Spokane.

Survivors include two daughters, Cherene Griffins of Salem Ore., and Darae Crew of Anchorage, Alaska; four brothers, Gordon, Gary and Kenneth Fisette, and Donald Fissette, all of Spokane; three sisters, Dorothy Gepford of Spokane, Judy Fisette of Post Falls, and Glennis Moore of Spokane Valley; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Carl Oeljen, M.D.

Spokane

Visitation for Carl G. Oeljen, M.D., 62, will be today at 11 a.m. at St. Marks Lutheran Church, with funeral to follow at noon at the church. Burial service will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Oeljen, who was born in Waseca, Minn., died Friday.

He graduated from Waseca Central High School in 1960 and attended the University of Chicago, and received baccalaureate and medical degrees from the University of Minnesota. He completed an internship at University Hospitals in Salt Lake City.

Dr. Oeljen served three years in the Army and worked in the 95th Evacuation Hospital in Da Nang, Vietnam, from 1970 to 1971. He received the Bronze Star.

Following his time in Vietnam, he had an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Dr. Oeljen was inducted into the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons, and was a member of the Pacific Northwest Orthopedic Society.

In 1965 he married Carol Bauman.

After moving to Spokane in 1975, Dr. Oeljen joined the Rockwood Clinic and was on medical staffs at Sacred Heart Medical Center, Deaconess and Valley hospitals.

He practiced in Longview, Wash., from 1989 to 1991, and had been on staff at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Spokane since 2001.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, photography and trapshooting.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Christelle Oeljen Brown and Carlin Oeljen Froisland; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Marks Lutheran Church or The Veterans Administration Medical Center.
